Marcel

Marcel (in Development)

GWEN WYNNE

On the surface, Marcel paints a portrait of one of the greatest documentarians at his best and at his worst. Marcel presents a behind the scenes look at Oscar-winning documentarian Marcel Ophuls making his final film, Let All People Go, at the age of 91—his third ‘tome’ on the politics of anti-Semitism and on the state of Israel and Palestine today.

We follow Marcel on his present-day journey of making Let All People Go while also looking at his personal history and previous films like The Sorrow and the Pity and Hôtel Terminus: The Life and Times of Klaus Barbie. How has Marcel come to be in the situation he is in now — broke and alone in Palestine?  Nevertheless, he has managed to convince two crews made up of Arab-Catholics, Muslims, and Israeli-Russian-Jews to run through Jerusalem with him. The interactions of a young crew (who had no idea who Marcel really was) are not only comic but tragic in the divergence of views and perspectives.
